So there was this very influential Megaman fanfic written in 2001, I think, called Rockman: The Robot War. It was a novelization of the first Megaman game, and presented interesting concepts.

Chief among them were these things:

1. Wily wasn't 'always' evil; a freak lab accident damaged his brain and made him go insane.
2. The world was almost destroyed, which is why they made stuff like robot trees, to fix the air and soil and stuff.
3. Not everyone is happy with the robots.

(It also thought Wily's first name was William instead of Albert, but that's neither here nor there.)

So it was done, and some people read it. Among them was a man named Eric Lawson. While he borrowed ideas from it, he created his own fanverse, his own universe, for his stories. Some take place in the X series, others in Zero, and some in Classic.

Collectively, it's called the Legacy of Metal.

But this one, in my opinion his Magnum Opus, takes place BEFORE the Classic series. It's called Guiding Rainbow's Light, and is a novel-length story of PURE EPICNESS.

Contained herein you will find:

1. A young Thomas Light with sunglasses and a motorcycle
2. Dr. Wily helping to save the world
3. Proof that Drs. Light and Wily are more awesome than Rambo
4. A very corrupt government
5. the tragic death of Dr. light's love
6. PURE, PURE AWESOMENESS.

I remember reading Rockman: The Robot War a few years ago, it's a classic.

The image of Wily in his lab, tortured by constant hallucinations, stays in my mind..along with Megaman decapitating Iceman with the Rolling Cutter, of course! Very Happy

I never really got to reading the whole 'verse' surrounding it though, I do know that somewhat recently Maelgrim started a sequel to The Robot War. So far, it seems even better than the original, though I will admit..it is abit less well paced then the original.
