oh chiptune music how you all are so distinct but blend in all together at the same time.
geeze i dont even want to get into this because their are so many good chiptune artist.
basically go to http://www.8bitpeoples.com/ and got to the discography page and download all of it. its a ton of different artist but they all have something special to them and really deserve a listen.
ill highlight a few i particularly enjoy
DIVAG
Nullsleep
minusbaby
mesu kasumai
twilight electric
psilodump
anime style
i should also mention *falling for a square* http://www.fallingforasquare.com/
really any album by any of the mentioned or unmentioned artist from those sites are great at what they do and their is enough variety that if you dont like one you might like another. |

Ohhhhhhh god yes. A few years back I was a HUUUUUUUUGE 8bitpeoples fangirl. Like seriously.
I almost interned with them.
Though if you go to that site you HAVE to download Random's Bad Joke EP. SOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD.
But yeah, like crash426mnb says... GO DOWNLOAD IT ALL. It's pretty much all fucking fantastic. <3

I was thinking about how I should post about them earlier! Their album "Out There" is brilliant.
GAHHHHH. I keep thinking of super awesome chiptune artists. D:
My obsession is resurfacing. :>
Also, RAINBOWDRAGONEYES just released his album on 8bitpeoples. You all would know him as MAGIC HAMMER... Or you'd know him from his brief time with The Protomen. He was The Dragon.
Yup. Go get it. NAO. |

check out a band called Murder by Death.
It gives me a feel of Johnny Cash morphed with The Doors.
If you're interested in something with a less hardcore feel. |

It better be pretty awesome if you're invoking the name oof Johnny.
Remember the lost 11th commandment! THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF JOHNNY CASH IN VAIN. |

So I really want to read through this whole thing before posting but there is SO MUCH, so I am just going to go ahead with my recommendations. I doubt many of them are listed here already, but if they are I apologize in advance.
Left Lane Cruiser - Spectacular slide guitar and some of the best drumming I've ever heard. Very gritty blues/country style stuff, definitely worth checking out.
Townes Van Zandt - An amazing songwriter that I don't think many people have heard of. Great fingerstyle folk/country/blues guitar. Check out "Live At The Old Quarter", it is his best stuff.
The Phage - A local band, but you should check them out. Myspace! Hard to describe their style, but they are amazing and it sucks that they haven't gotten more recognition.
Blanche - Kind of local, but I guess they are fairly well-known. Really cool alt-country band. The vocalist and bassist used to work with Jack White pre-/early White Stripes days, and their banjo/autoharp player is also in The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
Sparks - Simply amazing pop music. In Outer Space and Big Beat are my favorite albums of theirs.
That's all I can think of right now. Electric Six got mentioned at the beginning, or I would be doing it again right now! |
