Hello!

This thread title isn't referring to the mythology of the albums, but to the band itself.
We all know there's a rich history of wacky in-jokes and probably made-up stories about them, so why don't we start putting together a little something I'd like to call:

An Accurate Fictional History Of The Protomen

I'd like to go back to some old interviews where they talk (in "character") about how the band got started. Get some details on The Thundercon, Doug Fetterman, Jesse Christine, all these weird backstory-esque elements that are referenced in the newsletters. Stuff like that.
I have no interest in who these people "really are", I just want to have a complete collection of all the mythology that the band has created around itself.

We could even do a little of our own horn tooting...Talk about Tastyvein and The Chamethrawer Squadron.

So WHO IS WITH ME?
COME ON, IT'S GONNA BE GREAT!

This is the best topic idea I've read on these forums since Act II dropped. I have been a Protofan for a few years now. However, since I am not a frequent concert attender, and am relatively new to the forum culture, I am sort of out of the loop with the band's fictional history.

Someone really should compile it together. Who knows? If it's good enough maybe someone will write a rock opera about the band itself...

I'm ready and willing to help in thbis endeavor. I've been catalouging the names and faces, when applicable, of all the band members, even ones that were rarely seen or fill-ins. Living and RIP.

...I wrote a story about what might've happenbed to their first drummer, Demon Barber, too...But that was when he was listed as a POW, before they stated he died in the fire that consumed the Thundercon.

^This.

I have vague memories of an interview where the stated that there was a large battle, and the survivors became The Protomen However, I've not been able to find this mythical text.

The mythology of the Protomen is half the awesome. The other half is the music, of course.

Ah, the Protomen mythos. A touching story of battles, death, fear, hilarious but horrible car accidents, and pure epicness.

Didn't Jesse Christine get eaten by a graboid or something like that?

My theory is that she sacrificed herself to destroy a terrible robot. Who just happened to look like a fire hydrant.

I remember something back in the day where some guy was interviewing the band, and there was this whole...fake kidnapping subplot to the interview.
I thought it was totally awesome.

I'm sure there were some "details" in there.

Also: Glad people are digging the idea.

Now, I've seen this before a couple of times, but just to make things perfectly clear....

The guy himself didn't ACTUALLY die in a fire, did he? Just the Demon Barber persona?

Speaking as the resident expert on fires... he's about as ACTUALLY dead as Doug Fetterman is.

Who is Doug Fetterman?

What is Tastyvien?

Can anyone supply a detailed history of these characters?

Isn't it also true that the RIP people sometimes come and "die" onstage? I heard that rumor before.

Also, Tastyvein is a...I forget the word used, for Vanity Set, as in, Makeup and Vanity Set. You can read that in the thread "will of one in NES format" soanso in this forum. MAVs' stuff is pretty boss and you should buy the CD >_>

Anyway, I'd like to know more about the Protomen, too, their whole mythology is pretty boss. Also, I agree that this is one of the best threads in this forum. <3 At least this way we can direct the creepy fandom into something that's not wanting to shed babbies.
